In Conversation with Bruce Beresford and Peter James

Screenwest invites you to attend an In Conversation event with legendary Oscar-nominated Australian screenwriter/director Bruce Beresford and Emmy-nominated cinematographer Peter James ACS ASC.

Together, Beresford and James have collaborated on over ten productions, including the Oscar-winning Driving Miss Daisy and Australian biographical drama Mao's Last Dancer.

The moderated discussion will include an audience Q&A. 

Following the In Conversation, the Dolphin Theatre cash bar will be open and grazing platters will be provided.

Tickets are free of charge – registration is essential.

About Bruce Beresford
Bruce Beresford is an acclaimed Australian film and stage director, screenwriter, and producer.

He directed his first feature film, the comedy The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972), followed by the sequel, Barry McKenzie Holds His Own (1974). In 1976 Beresford made the comedy Don’s Party, and it earned him an Australian Film Institute award for best director. 

Beresford’s breakthrough came with his widely acclaimed Breaker Morant (1980). The movie earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. It also led to an invitation to direct the Hollywood film Tender Mercies (1983). Beresford received an Oscar nomination for Best Director. His biggest success was Driving Miss Daisy (1989), winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture. Other notable films include Black Robe (1991), Rich in Love (1992), Paradise Road (1997), Double Jeopardy (1999), and The Contract (2006).

In 2009 Beresford helmed Mao’s Last Dancer, followed by the dramedy Mr. Church (2016) and the TV movie Flint (2017) and Ladies in Black (2018). Beresford has also directed several operas.

About Peter James ACS ASC

Emmy-nominated cinematographer Peter James ACS ASC is one of Australia’s most respected cinematographers. A long-time collaborator with Bruce Beresford, he has worked with such legendary actors as Robert De Niro, Steve Martin, Holly Hunter, Ashley Judd, Vin Diesel, Tommy Lee Jones, Glenn Close and the late Robin Williams.

His slate of films include Meet the Parents, The Newton Boys, Alive and The Big White.

A multi award-winning cinematographer, Peter has shot over 10 films for Bruce Beresford including Ladies in Black, The Black Robe, Mao’s Last Dancer, Double Jeopardy and Paradise Road.
