The Guzheng Odyssey

‘The Guzheng Odyssey' concert, hosted by the Western Australia Guzheng Academy, will be a distinctive musical experience. A group of exceptional instrumentalists from WA will join with the Guzheng musician Xueyan Chen to breathe life into musical masterpieces that span genres, cultural heritages, and historical epochs. 
This concert will span a rich spectrum of musical styles, seamlessly fusing classical and contemporary, Eastern and Western musical traditions, incorporating a variety of performance formats, such as solos, concertos, and ensemble pieces, presenting a quintessential blend of Chinese, Australian and international cultures.

 



Xueyan Chen is an award-winning professional Guzheng musician with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree of Music in Guzheng Performance (both graduated with First Class Honours).

Jet Kye Chong is an award-winning Perth-based composer, percussionist and researcher, with a Bachelor of Philosophy in Mathematics and Statistics, and Music Specialist Studies in Composition/Percussion (First Class Honours).

Marlene Romeo is a professional violinist and baroque violinist who graduated with a Bachelor and two Masters of Music (all with High Distinction) from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Josie Fountain is a Perth based freelance cellist performing baroque and modern cello. She acquired a Bachelor of Music with Honours at UWA in 2014.

Olman Walley is a traditional owner of the Whadjuk Noongar region, he is a seasoned Didgeridoo musician with over 25 years of experience in performance.
