Sing Sing

A powerful tribute to the vital role of creativity and community. Based on the real-life testimonies of former inmates from Sing Sing prison, many of whom appear in the film, Sing Sing is a quietly radical celebration of our humanity, our capacity to endure and our potential to change.

Divine G is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. His only reprieve from the stultifying conditions of incarceration is the prison's theatre program. When a new member joins the program, Divine G encourages him to open up, to trust and to nurture the only thing that will, for now, take him beyond the confines of the prison walls – his imagination.

One of the most celebrated US indies of the year developed out of a real-life rehabilitation program operated in maximum security prisons in New York state. You may have heard of Sing Sing Correction Facility by its notorious reputation, but have you heard of its revolutionary arts program that has helped reduce the reincarceration rate of its alumni to only 3% (compared to a national average of 60%)?

With a stunning cast of non-professionals, led by US theatre veteran and Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, Sing Sing is a sensitive, joyous and inspirational film.
